Book covers I love!

'Don't judge a book by its cover' says an old proverb but when it comes to choosing books to read, cover plays a major role. A book's cover is something so powerful that's visually appealing to the readers and allure them to buy it. Over the years the process of designing a book's cover changed a great deal right from the method of designing and with the actual designs as well. A lot of innovative ideas that go into designing a book cover shows the book in a completely different look altogether. Some books despite having a great story/content to tell, fail in sales just because the cover isn't attractive enough. Or, they don't sync with the genre they belong to - by looking at its cover, the reader gets a different message that the genre speaks something different from what they are looking for and move away.

While reading builds all the creative world inside one's head, the book's cover paves a way to incite that imagination. It's always best to choose a book's cover that has some significance with the story or the genre the book is involved. Here are some book covers I love. Be it the font style, the contrast colour palettes or the background, these covers went to the extent that readers would grab just for their attractive cover.

A Walk along the Beach by Debbie Macomber

First goes my favourite author's book - A walk along the beach! The title and the cover picture is completely in sync. Although I'm not sure whether this picture is taken from something that's existing or created in mind factory, this place is something so alluring that I wished to visit. A place from where I could begin imagining the story as I start reading. The blue and the green being the major player here, other colours do the right amount of magic giving this cover life!

Love in an English Garden by Victoria Connelly

Yet another book that syncs with the title perfectly! The font colour of the title and the author name slightly differs yet completely mingles in with the background. This book is something that I wanted to grab just because of its cover, I admit! By looking at the cover it feels like I'm entering a garden that feels so peaceful and I want to be there for sure!

Secrets in Summer by Nancy Thayer

I came to know that this author lives in a beach town called Nantucket and most of her stories are inspired by beachside living. This cover is one of my favourites in the way that it's simple yet beautiful. The blue sky and a distant sea line with minimal use of colours, the red, add beauty to this simple yet wonderful cover.

One Last Summer by Victoria Connelly

Another one of Victoria's books that is my favourite! In fact, I fell in love with almost all the book covers of this author! Again, a blue sky with thin layers of clouds form a perfect background for the words with only a few colours to contrast, showing a wonderful outdoor. Summer flowers and the bright sunny day out in the open greenery is always a delight to watch.

Natural Born Readers by Victoria Connelly

A very simple snapshot yet attractive is this book's cover displaying just a bunch of flowers yet beautiful. Those purple, white and yellow layers create an attractive look accentuated with the faded green stems, Wow! And then, the fonts of the author name and the title that complements the simple picture behind.

Family Reunion by Nancy Thayer

Again from Nancy Thayer, the same beach background but much more attractive and in a completely different setup. It's evident that the story around a family getting together both in the title and the number of chairs placed while they enjoy the sight of the blue ocean. Those colours used are in contrast to one another and compliment each other creating a wonderful picture that's visually appealing.

The Little Village of New Starts by Donna Ashcroft

A graphic book cover that's full of colour and freshness. I was told that it takes time and craft to design a graphic cover which is a bit difficult that choosing a picture yet it stands out from the rest! Giving a green background with mountains at a distance, this cover gives a sense of peace and happiness to look at. A very good start to keep imagining the fictional world inside the book as you read! Those colourful flowers festooned at the top compliments the overall look!

Drizzle on the Mountain by Radhika Srinath

Yes, I love my own book cover, too! I wanted to match my cover with the story, that involves Darjeeling, a hill station and it also mingles in with the title of the story. Since the picture had a brownish hue I wanted to accentuate the fonts that stand out with a shade darker to the theme. Sometimes, even the fonts don't come for free. But I was lucky to get this font for my title.

My favourite covers' list grows endlessly but these are just the most appealing ones to me in the romance genre. Each and every book cover is different in its own way - be it the use of contrast colours, different font styles, appealing backgrounds, its always best to try with different things, mix and match until your heart says, 'yes'! to that one cover, you wish to finalize. It might be challenging but with practice and patience with a little knowledge in designing anyone can design an attractive book cover.

Happy designing and exploring!
